“The MAC is truly a valuable resource for me
and the underrepresented community on
Truman’s campus.
If I’m having a problem I can come in
and get help from a staff member or one of
my peers.
The various programs offered by the
MAC give me an outlet to relax and get
involved.
The MAC’s resources help keep
structure in my educational career.”

Dear
Students, Parents and Guests,
Greetings
from the Multicultural Affairs Center (MAC)!
It is a pleasure to have you visit our site
in order to learn more about the critical
work we do on Truman State University's
campus. Our mission is to provide a support
system for underrepresented students by
creating a campus environment that nurtures
Latino, African American, Native American
and Asian American students academically,
socially, culturally, and personally. The
MAC encourages students to not only
celebrate our individual and collective
differences in and effort to spread the
appreciation of diversity campus-wide, but
also promotes the ideal of our shared
community.
Academically through its programs, the MAC
hopes that students will: acquire the
necessary tools and strategies to
successfully navigate Truman, build critical
relationships for academic success, identify
their individual learning styles and
personality types. We offer a wide range of
opportunities for student to take advantage
of such as tutoring, study hall, and
academically motivating organizations.
Culturally, the goal of the MAC is to ensure
that students, especially first years, have
multiple opportunities to get connected to
at least one other student, administrator
and/or faculty member at Truman. We offer
numerous programs each month that celebrate
our cultural connections. Each year we
sponsor/cosponsor between 50 and 100
programs for the campus and local community
to enjoy. In addition to monthly programs,
the MAC also provides support to more than
14 cultural student organizations (Greek and
non-Greek). There is a wealth of
opportunities for students to get involved
on campus.
Ultimately, our hope is that students who
are successful in making positive academic
and peer group connections will in turn
demonstrate an interest in recruiting other
underrepresented students to Truman in order
share their experience. The MAC strives to
enhance the Truman community through
strengthening diversity and enriching the
college careers of underrepresented students
by having them:
-
Become confident in their academic
abilities
-
Form
valuable relationships with students,
faculty, staff and administration.
-
Successfully complete their
undergraduate experience
-
Return as successful alumni to encourage
and motivate current students.
