Academic Programs

  • The Peer Mentor Program: Incoming underrepresented first-year students may request to be paired with upper-class mentors, who will aid in making the first-years students' Truman experience more positive and successful.  The mentors will assist the students navigate university life by advising them on everything from selecting classes to joining organizations.  Bonds are formed that foster friendly relationships and open social doors for first-year students that help them to become cohesive units of the Truman community.

  • Tutoring Program: One of our most beneficial services is the MAC Tutoring Program. Tutors are offered free of charge to eligible Truman students who need assistance in any subject. Once a tutor request form is completed online, the tutoring coordinator assigns tutors based on need and availability.  Tutoring is offered in BIOLOGY: 100, 107, 108, 200 (Cell Biology), 300 (Genetics), 315 (Physiology), CHEMISTRY: 121 (Chem Principles II), 330 (Organic Chem), Math: Stats 190, College Algebra, Elementary Functions, Trigonometry, Calculus I, II, & III, Others: Basic Accounting, English, and Physics

  • Monitored Study Hall: Sunday through Thursday from 5 PM to 12 AM, the MAC is a monitored study area.  Students can work individually, with their tutors, or in small study groups.  A writing consultant and a math tutor are on hand regularly and computers are available on a first-come-first-serve basis.  This is a comfortable, welcoming, and encouraging environment suited to students' study needs.  

  • Brown Bag Lunch Series:  A weekly student success series that tackles issues that pertain to first year students. Topics range from roommate relationships to financial responsibility. A free lunch is provided to those who attend.

  • SMART Club: Students Motivating Academic Readiness Together is a club designed to promote academic achievement and accountability. It is a student led support system that encourages regular studying, discussion, and personal organization in order to maintain or improve overall individual academic performance.
